2024 westwords-varuna emerging writers’ residency

I am beyond proud to share that I am one of the recipients of the 2024 Westwords-Varuna Emerging Writers’ Residency, awarded to four diverse writers from Western Sydney who were selected for exceptional promise in writing style and the premise of their work.

The residency is a six-day program at beautiful Varuna, the National Writers’ House, to work on my crime novel DARK OPERA with respected industry mentors and fellow authors.

Going to Varuna has long been a dream of mine, to have the time and headspace to focus on my work and hone my craft. DARK OPERA is a novel I care deeply about, and straddles my experiences from Singapore and Australia. I’m so happy to have the opportunity to bring this to life, and that the selection panel saw promise in my work.

Congratulations to fellow recipients Ruth Larner, Lucia Nguyễn, and Danielle Osifo, and many thanks to WestWords and Varuna, the National Writers’ House, for the opportunity.

Looking forward to long walks in tranquil surrounds, scintillating conversations, and the wonderful freedom to write, unhurried and unharried.
